"SpaceX plans to launch an upgraded Dragon capsule on an unpiloted test flight to Mars as early as 2018, the company announced Wednesday. I'm hopeful the first people could be taken to Mars in 10 to 12 years," Elon Musk said. "I think it's certainly possible for that to occur. But the thing that really matters in the long term is to have a self-sustaining city on Mars to make life multi-planetary."
